The goal of this project is to develop resilient and thriving communities in Khan Younis Governorate. This will be achieved through the following objectives:
- Increase access to safely managed sanitation services for the residents.
- Develop additional non-conventional, climate-resilient water resources for agriculture and aquifer replenishment.
- Protect Gaza’s vital ecosystems, particularly the Mediterranean Sea and the Coastal Aquifer, from wastewater contamination.
By addressing these key areas – sanitation, water resources, and environmental protection – this activity aims to build more resilient and prosperous communities in the Khan Younis Governorate. The focus is on improving access to essential services, generating sustainable water supplies, and safeguarding the local ecosystem that the community depends on.
Services:
- Prepare a list of critical material and equipment needed to restore water, sanitation, and drainage facilities in Gaza. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, justify the needs, estimate beneficiaries, and provide cost estimates. USAID will procure and deliver the identified critical items.
- Identify priority areas in Gaza Governorate and Northern Gaza where water, sanitation, and drainage facilities have been affected. Conduct site inspections, prepare a report on rubble removal efforts, including locations, maps, photos, quantities, handling, storage, sorting, crushing, and final disposal/reuse.
- Assess the damaged water/sanitation/drainage pipelines and facilities in the priority areas where rubble has been removed, and prepare a report with a list of items, quantities, beneficiaries, and cost estimates.
- Conduct a fact-finding study and provide recommendations to USAID on the best approach to provide mobile housing units, considering social-environmental issues, safety, land availability, public services, and other relevant factors. Include market research on available units and options for siting.
- Prepare engineering designs for identified construction projects.
